Casting Powder

Casting Powder

It contains low melting constituents which instantly generate liquid slag which penetrates into the gap between the mould. Casting Powder is added in small amounts and continuously over the casting duration. Hence, the top surface of the liquid metal in the billet/slab always remains protected from the atmosphere.

Ladle & Tundish Covering Compound

Ladle and tundish covering compound are usually added to the ladle surface just before it leaves the secondary refining station to make its way to the continuous casting machine in the tundish. In the case of the tundish, it should be continually maintained to provide a black cover throughout the casting process.

The husk is first burnt in an open environment. The ash produced at this stage is black. Cooling is also done in an open environment for 24 hours, than amorphous rice husk ash is produced.
